Day #28 Wizarding Willow

sara le rouxby Sara le Roux,  Owner and Inspirer at The Creation Station Penistone and District

So Boo is not quite old enough to begin learning all about the wonderful world of Harry Potter yet (sooooo cannot wait for that!) but I can certainly help him along with a wizardy willow wand of his own!

Willow is lovely for crafting and honestly not that hard to work with once you get the hang of it.  You don’t need to be able to create baskets (I wish I could!) to enjoy some simple activities with this bendy material.

What You’ll Need

  • Willow – this can be bought at many art & craft retailers, online and HERE – alternatively you can also buy pre-made willow shapes to decorate (stars etc)
  • Pipe Cleaners – at least two
  • Beads – to thread onto the pipe cleaners
  • Strips of netting/material/ribbon – whatever you have in your stash to decorate your wand

I had already pre-made the willow wand by soaking the stick and then bending one end into a star shape.  There are lots of videos online about willow weaving if you want to learn how to do it.

Boo is getting really good at threading now (yay!) so I attached a pipe cleaner to the bottom of the star and off he went…

When he had added enough beads we wound it around the star and started another pipe cleaner.  With the star all decorated Boo chose some netting strips to add to the wand and we were done…SIMPLE!

Poor Izzy did not like her older brother using some old magic words on her…..Izzy Wizzy Lets Get Busy! (remember The Sooty Show anyone?) 🙂

Prep Time: 5 minutes (not including making the star)

Activity Time: 10 minutes

Day #28 DONE! 72 to go!
